About Us
Born and raised in Franklin, Maine, Dean began carving a rugged outdoor path with an axe and a buck saw at age 11. At 13, he upgraded to a chainsaw, and by 16, he harvested timber from local woods with his own bulldozer. After completion of high school, Dean worked a couple of years as subcontractor until his own forestry ventures grew enough to stand as an independent business Dean Young Forestry. In January 2012, Dean Young Forestry, Inc. became officially incorporated.
Today, Dean Young Forestry is a company with 30+ years of forestry experience and 25 employees, including CLP Certified Logging Professionals. Committed to honesty, hard work, and giving back to Maine, we make full use of our land and offer seasonal products and services to keep our employees with us year-round. We harvest a variety of timber products each year from more than 6,000 acres of carefully managed forest and field lands. Dean Young also stays active in the community, as a member of the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin Veterans Club, the David Hooper Lodge in Sullivan, and the Anah Shriners.
In 2010, Dean founded Old Meadow Camps, the only camp in the state offering a mentored hunting program for low-income youths. After more than 30 years living off of the land, Dean wanted to share the outdoor experiences he has always enjoyed with young people who may not have had the same opportunities, and to pass along both his knowledge and respect for Maine’s forests. Founded on Dean’s love for both children and the outdoors, Old Meadow provides a unique chance for kids to experience Maine’s landscape and wildlife firsthand.
Our Mission
Dean Young Forestry is committed to providing quality services while supporting responsible land management. We have founded Old Meadow Camps to introduce lower-income kids and their families to an outdoor camp environment. Whether beginners in the field or more experienced, we strive to provide young hunters with a safe, positive, and educational atmosphere to build new skills and discover potential. We encourage understanding and respect for Maine’s wildlife, while instilling the practical knowledge needed for a truly valuable hunting experience.
